Rockbridge Vineyard
Traminette 2000

Traminette is an interspecific hybrid of Gewürtztraminer and Seyval Blanc developed in the 1960's in Ohio. Like it's Gewürtz parent the wine has intense rose petal and grapefruit aromas and flavors, and like it's Seyval parent, crisp acidity (which Gewurz lacks). Viticulturally it is well suited to growing in Virginia; it is very cold hardy, rot resistant and achieves full maturity in most years. The year 2000 gave us our first full crop of our Traminette Vineyard.

Production:

Aging: 100% stainless steel
Bottled: March 2001
Quantity: 275 cases

Tasting notes:

0.8% residual sugar and 13.3% alcohol. The intense rose pedal aroma and flavors dominated this wine and the slight bitterness in the finish is typical of an Alsatian Gewürtztaminer which is the style sought. This wine complements Asian foods with spicy heat or pasta with spicy sausages.
